MetroAccess Service to Resume on Wednesday, But Snow Still Causing Problems

WMATA announced that riders with disabilities would be able to resume using the service after a one-day outage.

WASHINGTON, DC — Good news for MetroAccess users: the service will resume on Wednesday after a one-day outage due to the snowstorm.

Metro announced Tuesday that the paratransit service intended for customers with disabilities would resume service on Wednesday morning, and the reservations call center had reopened as of noon on Tuesday, according to a WMATA statement.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean that full service has been restored.

"Due to the nature of MetroAccess service, where vehicles often travel on secondary or tertiary streets, customers may experience lengthier trip times due to road conditions," the statement reads. "In some cases, 'door-to-door' service may be unavailable where driveways or sidewalks have not been cleared of snow and ice. In such cases, the driver will provide 'curb-to-curb service' instead."

MetroAccess encourages customers with subscription trips on Wednesday who would prefer not to travel to call right away to cancel.
