The first holiday of 2017 has arrived. How will it affect your weekend plans?

WASHINGTON, DC — This Monday, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the most influential civil rights leader in modern American history. Monday, Jan. 16 is a federal holiday in the United States, which will affect government services in D.C. We've provided a breakdown below of what closures you can expect in the area due to the holiday.
Smithsonian Museums and the Newseum: Open
All D.C. government offices: Closed

Department of Parks and Recreation centers, aquatic facilities and administrative offices: Closed, but parks themselves will remain open.
Trash/recycling collections: No trash and recycling collections will be made Monday, January 16.

"Collections in once-a-week collection neighborhoods will 'slide' to the next day for the remainder of the week," the D.C. Department of Public Works said in a statement. "In neighborhoods with twice-weekly trash collections, Monday and Thursday collections will be made Tuesday and Friday, and Tuesday and Friday collections will be made Wednesday and Saturday."
Parking enforcement: Suspended, with normal enforcement resuming Tuesday, Jan. 17.
