More Tickets to African-American History Museum Available Soon
The museum has been the hottest ticket in town, but you'll get your chance to snag a pass soon.
WASHINGTON, DC — The brand new National Museum of African-American History and Culture in D.C. has been the "Hamilton" of our area: insanely popular and just about impossible to get a ticket to get inside. But the Smithsonian's hot new attraction on the National Mall will be making more passes available for April that you can claim starting Jan. 4 at 9 a.m.
Make sure you're online and ready to claim right at the time, however, as tickets are probably going to go fast. If you miss your chance, there will be another opportunity to get a May pass on Feb. 1, the museum says on its website.
The extreme popularity of the museum has created a unique situation for allowing entry compared to other museums on the National Mall.

"The historic significance and high visibility of the Museum are attracting an unprecedented number of local, national, and international visitors," the museum website states. "Due to this, the Museum has implemented a Timed Pass system to serve as many visitors as possible while maintaining a secure, safe and smooth flow of people into the Museum. Timed Passes for the public and nonprofit organizations are free of charge."
Want to go earlier than the spring? From now until Dec. 18, a limited number of free timed passes per visitor can be obtained by visiting the museum in person on the same day of the visit, which are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 9:15 a.m. You aren't guaranteed to get one, however, and there's probably going to be a line to get one.
