Mother Charged In Blunt Force Trauma Death Of Infant Daughter
D.C. Police arrested a Southeast woman in connection with the Feb. 6 homicide of 11-month-old Makenzie Anderson.

WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department on Friday arrested a Southeast mother and charged her in the February death of her 11-month-old child in the 1600 block of New York Avenue, Northeast, according to a police release.
MPD officers learned around 2:56 p.m. on Feb. 6 that an infant had been taken to an area hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. All lifesaving efforts failed and the child was pronounced dead.
Police identified the victim as 11-month-old Makenzie Anderson of Northeast.

An autopsy was performed and the manner of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head and trauma inflicted by another. Mackenzie's death was ruled a homicide.
Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant Friday, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Tyra Anderson, 27, of Southeast, and charged her with first-degree cruelty to children (grave risk) and first-degree murder – felony murder.

An MPD spokeswoman confirmed Tyra Anderson was the victim's mother.
