Mount Vernon Square Homicide Under Investigation: DC Police

D.C. Police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place Tuesday night in the Mount Vernon Square area.

WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting in the Mount Vernon Square area Tuesday night, according to a police release. MPD identified the deceased victim as Edward Johnson, 31, of no fixed address.

Around 9:25 p.m., officers from the Third District heard gunshots in the 600 block of N Street, N.W. They found Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and EMS transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment, but all life-saving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call 202-727-9099 or submit an anonymous tip by sending a text message to 50411. MPD is currently offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for any homicide in the District.
