Murder At Anacostia River Trail, Suspect Arrested: Police
An arrest has been made for the murder of a 37-year-old DC man found dead on the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail in Southeast Washington in July.
WASHINGTON, DC — An arrest has been made for the murder of a 37-year-old DC man found dead on the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail in Southeast Washington this July, police said. (Subscribe to Washington DC Patch to stay up to date with all local news.)
Wendell Roy, 41, of Northeast was arrested and charged Thursday, Aug. 17 for the murder of Victor Williams, of Southeast.
At about 8:30 a.m. July 26, officers were dispatched to the trail, south of the 3300 block of East Capitol St., SE. for the report of a shooting. Multiple witnesses called police to report hearing about a half-dozen gunshots, police said.

Arriving officers located a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police told Patch. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

According to NBC Washington, police also located two dogs at the scene. A small dog survived, while a larger dog was fatally shot, the reports said.
"If you're on the bike trail anywhere, or if you're walking in a wooded area, you should always be aware of your surroundings... but I'm not telling the citizens at this point to be alarmed," Capt. Anthony Haythe, head of the DC homicide squad, told NBC Washington.
Roy is charged with First Degree Murder while Armed, police said.
