Muriel Bowser Coasts To Victory In DC Mayoral Race

Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has won a second term, making her the first mayor to win re-election since 2002.

WASHINGTON, DC — Democrat Muriel Bowser secured a second term as mayor Tuesday night, according to unofficial vote returns from the District of Columbia Board of Elections. Bowser, who defeated three challengers, is the first mayor in the District to win two terms in 16 years.

In the overwhelmingly Democratic city, Bowser captured 76.18 percent of the vote, per elections board results. Behind her in the race were Green Party candidate Ann Wilcox, Independent Dustin 'DC' Canter, and Libertarian Martin Moulton.

While Bowser did win her re-election bid, she lost on another front. The mayor backed Independent candidate and restaurateur Dionne Reeder during the election, hoping she'd unseat at-large council member Elissa Silverman. Dionne was only able to secure 46,268 votes, according to the unofficial election results.
