National Arboretum Names Bald Eagle Chicks 'Freedom' and 'Liberty'
After receiving 36,000 votes to name the eaglets, the arboretum has made its selection.

The vote to name the two Bald Eagle chicks at the National Arboretum has ended, and the results are in: they'll be named Freedom and Liberty.
Millions of viewers from around the globe have been tuning in to watch a live webcam of a bald eagle nest at the National Arboretum, and now that the eaglets have finally emerged, the arboretum hosted a social media campaign to suggest names for the new birds.
After getting thousands of suggestions, the National Arboretum put five of the most popular name pairs up for a public vote that ran from April 19-24 at www.dceaglecam.org.

Friends of the National Arboretum, the nonprofit partner of the arboretum, has announced that Freedom and Liberty were selected as the official names for the eaglets.
The webcam has certainly been popular, attracting more than 32 million views since February, when Mr. President and The First Lady -- the parents of the two chicks -- first started getting filmed in their treetop abode.

"The DC Eagle Cam has become an incredible tool to educate and inspire the public to protect our National Bird," American Eagle Foundation Founder and President Al Cecere said in a statement. "We hope that by the time the eaglets fledge, viewers will have gained a greater sense of understanding, involvement, and enthusiasm when it comes to Bald Eagle and wildlife conservation."
Friends of the National Arboretum reported that more than 36,000 votes were cast to name the eaglets.
