WASHINGTON, DC — Washington National Cathedral will toll its funeral bell 900 times at 5 p.m. on Monday to pay tribute to the more than 900,000 Americans who have died of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

“As America passes yet another grim milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cathedral will toll its funeral bell 900 times — once for every 1,000 lives lost,” the cathedral said in a statement.

Along with more than 900,000 deaths linked to the pandemic in the United States, about 2,600 deaths continue to be reported every day, the most since last winter, according to The New York Times.
