National Zoo Hosting Spooky Adults-Only Halloween Event

"Night of the Living Zoo" will take place Oct. 28 and will feature beer, music and a costume contest.

WASHINGTON, DC — The Smithsonian National Zoo is hosting its annual adults-only Halloween event, "Night of the Living Zoo," later this month -- an event featuring craft beers, live music and a costume contest.

The event will run from 6:30 until 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28 at the National Zoo, and tickets are $30 for general admission, which are still available, and $80 for VIP admission, which are sold out. Parking is $11 for members and $22 for non-members.

"Prepare to witness death-defying acts and amazing oddities at the Zoo's annual adults-only Halloween event, Night of the Living Zoo," according to the zoo's EventBrite listing. "With live music, craft beer, food trucks, a costume contest, and performance artists, it's a wicked night of fun that you won't want to miss."

The costume contest takes place at 7:30 p.m. on the Great Meadow, with prizes for winners. There's also carousel rides for $2 per ride. Food and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at various food trucks and beer gardens.

In addition, there will be a "Day of the Dead Altar Contest," where competitors enter a six-foot spooky table display, with prizes going to the most creative and interesting Halloween scenes.

Attendees must be at least 21 years of age, and a valid ID is required. Babies and children will not be admitted into the event.
