NFL Draft 2018: Redskins Select Alabama DL With 1st Pick

ARLINGTON, TX — The Washington Redskins decided to use their first pick in the NFL draft to shore up their defensive line, selecting Alabama DL Da'Ron Payne with the 13th pick overall Thursday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The Redskins are coming off a 7-9 finish and have some major needs in multiple areas. The team lost star QB Kirk Cousins in the offseason, and while they signed Alex Smith to replace him, there are a lot of question marks about the aging quarterback and management will certainly be on the lookout for a young QB to be the future of the franchise. Additionally, the Redskins have needs on defensive and offensive line, linebacker, and cornerback.

After Thursday’s first round, the draft resumes Friday for rounds 2-3, and then again at noon on Saturday.
