Northeast Girl Shot In Head Dies, Suspect Car Sought

Metro Police are searching for an SUV with Maryland tags that may be tied to the fatal shooting of a Northeast girl.

WASHINGTON, DC — A $25,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect in Thursday's fatal shooting of a 16-year-old girl from Northeast DC. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department say Taiyania Thompson was shot Jan. 25 in the 1000 block of Mount Olivet Road, Northeast; she died Sunday from her injuries.

About 3:10 p.m. on Thursday the shooting was reported inside a residence. Thompson was taken to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, and later died. Preliminary information suggests the shooting stems from a domestic incident.

WTOP reports Thompson was shot in the head.

Police are searching for a vehicle of interest in the case, a 2017 white Kia Sorento SUV. The vehicle has a Maryland tag of 1DD2833 and may have front end damage.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099, or text anonymous information to 50411.
