Northeast Man Wanted In Child Cruelty Case: Police Report

Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the public's help in locating a man warrant for first degree cruelty to children.

WASHINGTON, DC — Detectives from the Youth and Family Services Division, Physical and Sexual Abuse Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department are asking the public's help in locating a second suspect in connection with a cruelty to children offense that occurred On Dec. 23, 2020, in the McMillan area, according to a police release.

Detectives responded around 5:30 p.m., to a residence in the 500 block of Harvard Street, Northwest for the report of a child suffering from visible trauma. Following a preliminary investigation, the detectives located a girl in the 1200 block of 49th Street, Northeast, suffering from life-threatening injuries. Police say the injuries were deliberately inflicted on the girl, who is being treated for her injuries and is in stable condition.

MPD arrested a 25-year-old Northeast man and charged him with second degree cruelty to children (grave risk). An investigation revealed the incident to be domestic in nature.

Detectives have identified 28-year-old Maurice Meniefield, of Northeast, as a second suspect in this case. On Monday, police released a photo of Meniefield, who is wanted on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant for first degree cruelty to children.

Anyone with information about this incident or the whereabouts of Meniefield is asked to call 202-727-9099 or text a tip to 50411. MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the anyone responsible for a violent crime in the District.
