NoVa Winter Weather Advisory Extended, Hour-By-Hour Snow Forecast

The winter weather advisory for much of northern Virginia and DC has been extended. See the hour-by-hour snow forecast.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — While snow slowly moved into northern Virginia Saturday, with an inch on the ground at Dulles Airport by 11 a.m., a winter weather advisory for the Baltimore-Washington area has been extended until 9 p.m. Predictions of 1 to 4 inches of snow were enough to have several school districts cancel Saturday activities, including Alexandria City Public Schools, Fairfax County Public Schools, Falls Church City Public Schools, Spotsylvania County Public Schools and Stafford County Public Schools.

Snow accumulations may be between 2 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts possible, according to the weather service. Areas included in the advisory are Washington, D.C., plus Prince William, Manassas, Manassas Park, Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George and Loudoun areas.

The weather service warns drivers to plan on slippery road conditions in the District of Columbia, Baltimore and surrounding portions of Maryland and Virginia.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang says that they believe snow totals will lean toward the low end of predictions. "Snow will stick, especially on grass and elevated surfaces. Localized heavier bands of snow could develop. Anyone that gets under a persistent heavier band will stand a chance for higher-end totals," the forecasters say.
