Oxon Hill Man Charged In Fatal Traffic Collision

Metropolitan Police Department investigators arrested an Oxon Hill, Maryland man in connection with a fatal traffic collision.

WASHINGTON, DC — An Oxon Hill, Maryland man was arrested and charged after Metropolitan Police Department investigators say he left the scene of a fatal traffic collision along the Maryland border, according to a police release.

Detectives from MPD's Major Crash Investigations Unit determined that around 5:36 p.m., a Mercedes-Benz was traveling at a high-rate of speed southwest bound in the 4400 block of Southern Ave., S.E., when it struck a Dodge Magnum. The second vehicle was in the process of making a left turn from the 1100 block of Ridge Road, S.E., onto Southern Avenue, when it was hit.

D.C. Fire and EMS transported the driver of the Dodge Magnum, later identified as Kenneth Cooper, 42, of Southeast, to a local hospital. All lifesaving efforts failed and Cooper was pronounced dead. Two passengers in the Mercedes-Benz — an adult female and a juvenile male — were taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
