Passerby Tackles DC Man Holding Couple At Gunpoint: Police

D.C. police charged a man with assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with a couple being held at gunpoint early Saturday morning.

WASHINGTON, DC — The Metropolitan Police Department charged a man with assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with a couple being held at gunpoint early Saturday morning in Southeast D.C.

At about 2:15 a.m. Saturday, the suspect, 42-year-old Eric English of Northwest D.C., aimed a handgun at a couple in the Unit block of N Street in Southeast D.C.

A passerby saw the assault and tackled English to subdue him, according to the MPD. As the passerby tackled him, English fired his handgun.

“Once I started tackling him, he went to shoot,” the passerby told WTOP. “I mean, it must have been pretty close to my head, because I can’t hear out of my left ear anymore.”

The victim and the passerby held the suspect until police arrived.
