Patch's Hometown Heroes: U.S. Army Veteran Cesar Jesus Visurraga​

WASHINGTON, DC — American wouldn't be where it is today without our service members. We are the home of the free because of the brave.

At Patch, we want to highlight U.S. soldiers. That's why we've launched "Hometown Heroes," a series that celebrates service members from the nation's capital. Nominate a service member or fallen soldier for a chance to be featured on Patch (more info at the bottom of this post).

Our first submission comes from Sonia De Leon Sanchez, who nominated Cesar Jesus Visurraga — a native Washingtonian:

"Cesar served in the U.S. Army, Active Duty and Army Reserve, from 2005-2013 as a U.S. Army Captain. Cesar was a U.S. Army Nurse Officer (66H) serving in Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C., and Fort Campbell, KY."

"Cesar was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2007-2009 with the 86th Combat Support Hospital, 101st Airborne Division. He served as a Head Nurse, Charge Nurse, and, finally, a Critical Care Nurse in Iraq."

"With the Airway Management training while deployed in Iraq, Cesar pursued Nurse Anesthesia and today is a proud doctoral Nurse Anesthesiologist for the Department of the Veterans Affairs and Certified Veteran-Owned Small Business Owner of an Anesthesia Services Company for the DMV area. Through his company, Cesar is also providing chronic pain management and mental health wellness services to the DMV community."

"Notable awards include Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Currently, Cesar resides in Maryland."
