Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Car On Southern Avenue
A pedestrian who was crossing Southern Avenue, Southeast was struck by a car Thursday evening and later died of their injuries.
WASHINGTON, DC — A pedestrian died from injuries received after being struck by a Mercedes-Benz Thursday evening on Southern Avenue, Southeast near the Maryland border, according to a police release.
A preliminary investigation by detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Major Crashing Investigations Unit determined the Mercedes-Benz was traveling northeast in the 1300 block of Southern Ave., S.E., when it struck a pedestrian who was not in a marked crosswalk. D.C. Fire and EMS transported the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment, but all lifesaving efforts failed and they were pronounced dead.
MPD has not released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
