People Aren't Buying Crazy Inauguration Hotel Packages in DC: Report

Numerous hotels have vacancies instead of bookings on Jan. 20.

WASHINGTON, DC — As perhaps the most intense presidential campaign in modern memory raged on, hotels in D.C. were announcing lavish "Inauguration Day" packages for anyone who wanted to attend the Jan. 20, 2017 coronation of the next president in style. But those packages reportedly aren't selling very well.

The Washington Post is reporting that hotels, which usually see a booking frenzy after a presidential election, haven't been getting many calls, except from stunned Democrats who want to cancel theirs.

The packages will probably sell out at some point, but it definitely suggests that many people are stunned by Donald Trump's upset win over Hillary Clinton. Clinton supporters obviously aren't booking, and Trump supporters may be too shocked that they actually won to think about Inauguration Day.

There's not yet word on how one hotel in particular is doing in terms of bookings: the newly opened Trump International Hotel in D.C.

D.C. hotels have long enjoyed the business that Inauguration Day typically brings every four years. It draws in big spenders who are often willing to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for packages at luxury hotels.
