Pizzagate Shooter Apologizes, Says He Was 'Foolish And Reckless': Report
Edgar Maddison Welch pleaded guilty in March to walking into Comet Ping Pong in Northwest D.C. with an assault rifle.
WASHINGTON, DC — The man who pleaded guilty to walking into a pizza restaurant in the District of Columbia with an assault rifle to investigate an Internet rumor called "Pizzagate" has apologized in a letter, saying he now realizes "just how foolish and reckless he was," according to a report.
The Associated Press reports that Edgar Maddison Welch submitted the letter to a judge ahead of his June 22 sentencing, where his attorney is attempting to get him a sentence of 1 year in prison while prosecutors are seeking 4 years.
Welch, 28, pleaded guilty in March. He fired multiple shots inside Comet Ping Pong on Dec. 4 after traveling from North Carolina to self-investigate the conspiracy theory.
