President Trump Is Tweeting A Lot More Than He Used To

An analysis of his tweets the last four months shows a marked spike in how often he's blasting his thoughts to the world.

WASHINGTON, DC — If you feel like President Donald Trump has been blowing up on Twitter a lot more often lately, you'd be right.

The number of times Trump tweets per day now compared to four months ago has doubled, and Twitter explosions are becoming more and more frequent as he becomes frustrated by leak after leak and scandal after scandal.

The following chart shows how much Trump has tweeted in the last 121 days since the end of July, and there's a very clear trend line from less than four tweets per day to around eight in recent weeks.

In the last month, he's only fallen under four tweets per day three times. And in 12 of the last 32 days, he tweeted at least 10 times, and once as many as 15.

As they have in the past, the tweet spikes often come during crises such as developments in the Russia collusion scandal or the failure of his health care bill. But what has been remarkable lately, and perhaps explains why his tweets are up, is that many times his tweet-storms don't have any apparent impetus.

For example, in a 12-tweet tirade that stretched over hours on Saturday, Trump ping-ponged between the health care bill, the stock market, and his frustrations with China.

And on July 25, he had his largest tweet-storm in the last four months, touching on each of the following topics:

  • His rally in Ohio
  • Well wishes to Sen. John McCain
  • Visit by Lebanon's prime minister
  • U.S. labor market
  • Health care bill
  • Trade deal with the United Kingdom
  • Russian collusion
  • Hillary Clinton and the FBI
  • Attorney General Jeff Sessions
  • Ukraine

President Trump is about to embark on a 17-day vacation. The big question is whether he can stay off Twitter during his time off, or at least limit his tweets.

His tweets certainly are giving his own staff headaches:
