Recent High School Grad Killed In Monday Night Shooting

D.C. Police are investigating a Monday night shooting in District Heights that left one man dead and another critically injured.

WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a double shooting that took place Monday night in Columbia Heights, which left a recent high school graduate dead.

Around 6:21 p.m., officers from the Third District responded for the sound of gunshots in the 1400 block of Fairmont St., N.W. Arriving on the scene, they found two adult males unconscious, unresponsive, and suffering from gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS transported one of the victims to an area hospital to be treated for life threatening injuries. All efforts to save his life failed and he was pronounced dead. The second victim was also taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for life threatening injuries. He remains in critical condition.

MPD identified the deceased victim as Christopher Beckwith Jr., 22, of Northwest.

"It's my understanding that the decedent was a recent graduate of Cardozo High School here in our community," said Chief Peter Newsham, during a Tuesday morning press conference.
"We're currently seeking any information concerning this case."
