Report: Redskins Legend George Starke Arrested in D.C.

Former Washington Redskins offensive lineman George Starke, who helped the Redskins win Super Bowl XVII, has been arrested on assault charges, according to an Associated Press report.

Police say Starke, who is 67, got into an argument with a female companion at the W Hotel, according to the report. The two pushed and shoved each other, and then Starke allegedly struck the woman.

Starke was a major figure for the Joe Gibbs-era Redskins that won three Super Bowls. Although Starke retired relatively early in that run -- in 1984, shortly after winning their first Super Bowl -- he was known as the "Head Hog" of "The Hogs," the famed offensive line that would be credited with much of the Redskins' Super Bowl successes.

Since his retirement, Starke has run "George Starke Ford," a car dealership in Emmitsburg, Md. He also helped created the "Head Hog BBQ" restaurants in Bethesda and Rockville in Maryland.
