Fatal Shooting In Reston Investigated: Updated
Major Crimes Bureau detectives from the Fairfax County Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman in Reston.

Updated (Sept. 17, 7 p.m.): Major Crimes Bureau detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department are continuing to investigate the fatal shooting of a woman in Reston, according to a police release.
FCPD officers responded around 6:39 a.m., for the report of woman lying on the ground in the area of Colts Neck Road and Glade Drive. They found a woman lying on the ground, suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was declared dead on the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the manner of death. Police are withholding the name of the victim until detective confirm her identity.
This remains an active investigation. Detectives are conducting interviews, processing evidence, and canvassing the area for witnesses.

This is the seventh homicide this year in Fairfax County.

RESTON, VA — Fairfax County Police were dispatched at 6:49 a.m., Thursday, for the report of a woman being shot in the upper body and dying in the area of Colts Neck Road and Glade Drive in Reston, according to Sgt. Tara Gerhard, a public information officer with FCPD.
Crime scene and major crime scene investigators were still processing the scene as of 11:51 a.m., trying to determine the events leading up to the shooting. Police have not identified the victim, but they are working to notify the next of kin.
Police do not have a suspect in custody, according to a post on the FCPD official Twitter account. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800 or anonymously thru Crime Solvers 866-411-8477.
FCPD closed Colts Neck Road between Glade Drive and Paddock Lane for several hours. It is now open.
