Samantha Bee To Host Huge Roast Of Donald Trump In DC: Report

The comedian and host of "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee" is hosting it on the same night as the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

WASHINGTON, DC — Comedian Samantha Bee will host of an event in D.C. that will serve as an alternative to the White House Correspondents' Association's annual dinner with a full-on roast of President Donald Trump.

The April 29 event, aptly titled "Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner," comes as many wonder whether the White House Correspondents' Dinner will happen at all, especially with the toxic relationship between Trump and journalists and celebrities. Bee, who is the host of the TBS political comedy show "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee," wants to make sure that Trump gets properly roasted with a counter-event to take place at the Willard Hotel on the same night as the dinner, according to a New York Times report.

“We’re not trying to supersede it,” she told the Times. “We just want to be there in case something happens — or doesn’t happen — and ensure that we get to properly roast the president.”

The details on the event are still reportedly being worked out, and the proceeds would go to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

The White House Correspondents' Dinner has long been somewhat controversial among journalistic circles, with some wondering whether journalists were getting too cozy with people they were supposed to be covering. The Times even stopped sending journalists to it in 2008.

The dinner has had some famous roastings in the past, particularly Stephen Colbert's scathing takedown of President George W. Bush in 2006 as he uncomfortably watched a few chairs down.

In fact, it was at a 2011 dinner when President Obama mocked Trump, who was in attendance, for doubting that he was born in the United States. Some believe that this is what ultimately prompted Trump to seek the presidency.
