Scorching Temperatures Will Keep DC's Spray Parks Open This Week
Highs will be inching into the upper 90s this week in D.C.
WASHINGTON, DC — It may be the unofficial beginning of fall with kids back in school, but summer isn't ready to close up shop just yet -- a heat wave this week has prompted D.C. officials to keep the city's spray parks open until Sunday.
Highs will reach a sizzling 96 degrees on Thursday and Sunday this week, and they will hover in the low to mid 90s for the entirety of this week before things finally cool down into the 80s on Sunday. The week following will be milder, although still far from fall temperatures.
"Due to the expected high temperatures this week, DPR will continue to operation of spray parks across the District until Sun, Sept 11th," the D.C. Parks and Recreations Department tweeted Sept. 5.

The spray parks "offer an exciting and alternative way to cool off and have fun," Parks and Rec says on its website.
Outdoor pools have already closed for the summer, some in mid August and others on Labor Day.
