See Which DC Burger Spots Rank In '100 Best Burgers In America'

See which DC burgers made the "100 Best Burgers In America" list by Thrillist.

WASHINGTON, DC — With Memorial Day tomorrow and the weather basically going from zero-to-summer in one week, people across The District will soon be firing up their grills and serving up a staple for any summer cookout: a hot delicious burger. Whether covered in gooey melted cheese or even served up plain with ketchup, there is no denying DC residents love to bite into a hot and delicious patty.

But what if you don't feel like cooking this weekend? You're in luck, because Thrillist just released their "100 Best Burgers in America" list, and four burgers at various DC restaurants made the cut.

For those who don't know, the Thrillist homepage describes the website as a provider of “all that's new, unknown or under-appreciated in food, drink, entertainment, nightlife, gadgets, and gear.” Thrillist sent writer Kevin Alexander to 30 different states to eat over 330 burgers during his “Burger Quest."

"I had zero expectations for the burgers in DC. I didn't even really think it was worth a full trip until I talked to DC food writer Laura Hayes. But then I went to Cap City (please make this nickname happen! I NEED THIS!), and I ate all the burgers and I was blown away," Alexander wrote. "This city of both real and political gridlock is right up there with Dallas and Manhattan at the top of the burger city world. The top four burgers in DC could likely compete with the top four in any other city."

According to Alexander, the third best burger was found in Massachusetts and the second best in New York. "Nick's Cheeseburger" with grilled onions at Stanich's in Portland placed at the very top of the list.
