Sex Offender Covered in Tattoos Arrested in DC After Search

The man was found in downtown D.C. after failing to turn up at a facility in Texas.

WASHINGTON, DC — A tattoo-covered sex offender who was supposed to check into a transitional center in Texas but didn't has been arrested in D.C. after a search.

Matthew Ezekiel Stager, 44, was released from the Federal Correctional Complex in Petersburg, Va., and was supposed to check into the transitional center later Thursday but never showed. He was arrested in downtown D.C. in the 500 block of 4th Street NW at 2:40 p.m., according to multiple news reports.

Stager had a connection to multiple states and a history of drug abuse and mental health issues, which is what prompted authorities to issue an urgent alert about his disappearance.
