Sexual Abuse And Burglary Charges Levied Against 26-Year-Old Southeast Man: Police

D.C. police charged a 26-year-old Southeast man with sexual abuse and two counts of burglary of a Hill East residence recently.

WASHINGTON, DC — A Southeast man who is accused of sexually abusing a resident while they slept reportedly returned to the victim's house five days later, according to a police news release.

Artez Powell, 26, faces sexual abuse and burglary charges in connection with two incidents that occurred recently in the Hill East neighborhood, according to authorities.

Around 5:20 a.m, on March 2, Powell entered a residence in the 1900 Block of C Street, Southeast and approached the sleeping victim, according to detectives from the Sexual Assault Unit of the Metropolitan Police Department. When the victim woke up, Powell was reportedly engaged in unwanted sexual contact, authorities say.

He then fled the scene with the victim's property, officers said.

Powell returned to the same residence around 5:03 a.m. on March 7. He awoke the sleeping victim but then fled the scene without taking any of the victim's property, police said.

Police charged Powell with fourth-degree sexual abuse and two counts of first-degree burglary.
