Shooting Victim Succumbs To Injuries; Death Ruled A Homicide

D.C. homicide detectives are working with the U.S. Attorney's office to secure additional charges against defendant in shooting incident.

WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigation a fatal shooting that took place July 16 in Marshall Heights, according to a police release.

Officers from the Sixth District responded around 2:49 p.m., in the Marshall Heights area for the report of a shooting. They found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and EMS took the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment.

On Monday, the victim succumbed to his injuries. Following an autopsy performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, the cause of death was determined to be complications of a gunshot wound. The death was ruled a homicide.

Police identified the decedent as Marc Mayo, 40, of District Heights, Maryland.

On July 16, MPD arrested an adult male and charged him with assault with a dangerous weapon (gun) in reference to the shooting incident. Homicide detectives are working with the U.S. Attorney's office to bring additional charges against the defendent, whom police have not identified.
