Shots Fired Near White House, Reports Say

WASHINGTON, DC — The White House North Lawn was cleared and the area was on lockdown on Saturday evening after gunshots were heard in the area, according to reports.

The Secret Service told reporters to run into the White House Press Briefing Room after the shots were heard, ABC News reported.

CNN reporters heard the gunfire, CNN reported. The Secret Service was investigating reports of shots in the area of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest, which is just outside the White House complex, the outlet reported.

Aaron Navarro of CBS News reported there were 20 to 30 shots fired, and that reporters ran from where they were set up for live reports into the briefing room.

Videos circulating on X (formerly known as Twitter) showed Secret Service agents outside the White House.

In one from ABC News correspondent Selina Wang, the sounds of apparent gunfire can be heard in the background, and she and another person can be seen diving for cover.

FBI Director Kash Patel said in a post on X that the agency is on the scene and assisting the Secret Service.
