Sinkhole Opens On White House Lawn: Reports

WASHINGTON, DC -- A sinkhole has been discovered on the White House lawn near the entrance to the press briefing room, and officials are monitoring as everyone else takes to Twitter to joke about it.

Multiple reports indicate the sinkhole was first observed over the weekend on the North Lawn after heavy rains, and the National Park Service is keeping a close eye on it to ensure it doesn't become a problem.

Voice of America White House bureau chief Steve Herman tweeted pictures of the sinkhole, noting that it appeared to be "growing larger by the day."

“Sinkholes, like this one, are common occurrences in the Washington area following heavy rain like the DC metro area has experienced in the last week,” NPS spokesperson Jenny Anzelmo-Sarles said in a statement according to Fox 5. “We do not believe it poses any risk to the White House or is representative of a large problem.”

Nevertheless, the jokes came fast and hard.
