The Smithsonian Is Hiring a Beer Historian ... Yes, Really

Get your applications in pronto for what sounds like a pretty sweet job.

The Smithonian National Museum of American History has a position open for a beer historian ... and it definitely sounds like a pretty awesome job.

It appears the museum has recognized the tremendous rise of craft brewing in recent years and intends to spearhead a project lasting at least three years that will involve researching American brewing history, particularly the craft industry.

Anyone can apply for the position, which comes with $64,650 plus benefits, and you've got a good shot if you have "proven experience" in scholarly research and organizing oral history interviews. It will be part of a "Food History" project at the museum that will involve archival and field research, according to a museum statement.

In addition, you'll get paid to travel and do "field research" -- which sounds tasty indeed.

"The candidate will work with members of the curatorial staff on collections work and develop content for a wide variety of programs and applications, including digital formats," the statement adds. "Candidates with an advanced degree in American business, brewing, food, cultural, or similar specialization within history are encouraged to apply."
