Snakes Discovered In DC Library: Report

The Georgetown Library had to be closed for two days after staff found snakes in the basement.

WASHINGTON, DC -- If you don't like snakes, you might not want to read this story. Turn back now before it's too late.

Staff at the Georgetown Library had noticed something strange in the basement near one of the meeting rooms there: a gathering of snakes, according to a Washington Post report.

It all started with the discovery of one snake this weekend, which was captured and released. Then two more snakes were found. So the library called pest control and closed for the day.

Staff now believe that at least four snakes were living in the building -- for how long, nobody knows. The library remained shut down for two more days until the pest control company gave the thumbs up, according to the report.

The snakes in question likely were garter snakes, which are a common species of small, harmless snakes that feast on bugs and amphibians, mostly.

The library is back open now. Just keep your eyes open if you have to head down to the basement.
