Snow Delays, Closings: Where To Find PG County Schools Alerts

Prince George's County families can now find the latest weather-related closing and delay information via school CEO's Twitter account.

BOWIE, MD — Prince George's County commuters face some of the worst traffic in the country. Add a few inches of snow and ice to the mix and you have the makings of a terrible morning commute. That makes getting timely information about delays and closings at local schools due to inclement weather extremely important.

Prince George's County Public Schools released its updated emergency notifications, school closings and delays policy last week.

In the case of inclement weather, officials will make the decision to open or close schools before 5:30 a.m. on the day in question. The decision will then be communicated to the media, parents and school staff.

PGCPS will issue closing announcements to the local media and on its website; social media, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram; email and text; and phone bulletin board.

For the first time this year, families can check CEO Monica Goldson’s Twitter account for weather-related notifications.
