Arrest Made In 2 Homicides, 1 Dating Back To 1996

WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department arrested 42-year-old Rasheed Young of Southeast Wednesday in connection with two homicides, one in 1996 and the other in 2018, according to a police release.

In the first case, officers from the Fifth District responded around 8:56 p.m., on June 11, 1996 to the 300 block of Franklin Street, Northeast for the sound of gunshots. They found 26-year-old Cedric Rogers of Northeast suffering from gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS transported Rogers to a nearby hospital but all lifesaving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead.

In the second case, Fifth District officers found a an unconscious and unresponsive man around 11:15 a.m., on May 20, 2018, in a residence in the in the 2300 block of 4th Street, Northeast. The man, later identified as 39-year-old Ronald William Richardson Jr. of Northeast, was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. After an examination at the scene, DC FEMS determined that Richardson had died. He was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant Wednesday members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Rasheed Young, 42, of Southeast, and charged with first degree murder while armed and second degree murder while armed, respectively.

Police released Young's arrest record, which included charges for assault with intent to kill, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, murder, assault on a police officer, and tampering with physical evidence.
