WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department have arrested a suspect in connection with an incident earlier this month in which a homeless man died from injuries he suffered after being set on fire, according to a police release. Members of the D.C. Fire and EMS Department and the ATF/DC Arson and Explosives Task Force assisted in the investigation.
On Wednesday, May 13, around 1:08 a.m., D.C. Fire and EMS responded for the report of a fire in the 900 block of H St., N.E. Fire investigators determined the fire had been intentionally set. MPD officers found a man suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated. The victim, whom police identified as Darryl Finney, 62, of no fixed addressed, died two days later from his injuries.
The fire was one of five police and D.C. Fire and EMS responded to that same morning along the H Street corridor.
