Suspect Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Southeast Woman: Police

WASHINGTON, DC — Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives arrested a suspect in the March 20 fatal shooting of a Southeast woman, according to a police release.

On Friday, March 20, officers from the Seventh District were dispatched to the 1900 block of 16th Street, S.E., in Anacostia, for the report of gunshots being fired. Arriving on the scene, officers found an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and EMS detected no signs of life and the victim was transported later to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Police identified the decedent as Lagioria Brinkley, 36, of Southeast.

Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, officers arrested Mequan Carthens, 19, of Southeast, on Thursday, charging him with first degree murder while armed (premeditated).

The case remains under investigation. MPD asks anyone with information about this case, which remains under investigation, to call 202-727-9099 or text an anonymous tip to 50411.
