'Thanks, Obama' Says Adams Morgan on Huge Blackboard
The Northwest D.C. neighborhood is excited to have Obama as a neighbor once he leaves office.
WASHINGTON, DC — The Adams Morgan neighborhood is excited to have President Obama as their new neighbor when he leaves the White House in January, and they've found a way to thank him for his service through a blackboard at the corner of 18th and Columbia in Northwest.
The public is able to write anything they want on the 7-foot-tall board, and it soon filled up with messages welcoming Obama and thanking him for all he's done in eight years in office.
"President Obama supports our local independent businesses — he’s been sighted at Mintwood Place, Pleasant Pops and others — and we wanted to show we support him," Kristen Barden, Executive Director of Adams Morgan Partnership BID, said in a statement. "It’s not a partisan project — people can write whatever they like — it’s our way of welcoming him to the community and showing respect for the office of the President."

The comments on the blackboard are documented by photos, and the board is wiped down so more people can write their thoughts. At the end of the month, the boards and the photos will be donated to the D.C. Historical Society.
The overwhelming majority of the comments have been positive, which says a lot not only about Obama but also of the makeup of Adams Morgan, Barden said.
