These Adorable Robots are Roaming DC Streets with Food Inside (Video)
Postmates has officially launched a fleet of delivery robots in Georgetown and the 14th Street corridor.

WASHINGTON, DC — Food delivery app Postmates officially rolled out a fleet of delivery robots in D.C. created by Starship Technologies on Wednesday, and they're something to behold.
The group of 20 robots will make trips off less than a mile in the Georgetown and 14th Street corridor areas, according to a Washingtonian report, which notes that the service is likely to expand to more neighborhoods later.
If a Postmates user orders some items from a nearby store, the vendor gets a notification and a robot is sent to a nearby designated hub. The vendor puts the goods in the bag, which is temperature-controlled and sealed, and then the bot wheels its way to the customer. The customer is given a code that is necessary to open the container.

The robots aren't going to replace the Postmates drivers and cyclists out there anytime soon. It's aimed more for short trips and a small amount of items where it wouldn't make sense to pay a delivery charge.
Starship Technologies, the maker of the robots, says that the robots run on clean energy and are therefore much better for the environment. They use GPS systems, sensors to spot obstacles, and nine cameras in order to navigate to their destinations.
