Tree Lighting, Ice Maze Highlight Holiday Season At CityCenterDC

CityCenterDC is hosting its eighth annual holiday tree lighting on Saturday, Nov. 27 in downtown D.C. and will hold its Ice Maze Dec. 10-12.

WASHINGTON, DC — CityCenterDC is hosting its eighth annual holiday tree lighting on Saturday, Nov. 27 and will hold an Ice Maze Dec. 10-12.

The tree-lighting celebration will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday in The Park at CityCenter. The festivities will be emceed by NBC 4 Anchor Eun Yang, with a performance by a seven-piece dance band, Élan Artist's The Revels.

CityCenterDC is a pedestrian-friendly mixed-use development in downtown D.C. The area is home to more than 221,000 square feet of retail space, 520,000 square feet of office space, 458 rental apartment units and 216 condominium units, a 360 room hotel, a 1,550-space parking garage, a public park, a central plaza and pedestrian-oriented streets and alleyways.

The development is located between 11th and 9th streets NW and between H Street and New York Ave. NW.

For the 2021 holiday season, the 75-foot tree, one of the largest in the city, will be decorated with more than 150,000 lights and 4,500 ornaments.

The 130,000-pound clear ice maze will have an additional 20,000 pounds of ice from the previous maze in 2019 and will be built by 10 sculptors over the course of three full days.

CityCenterDC will donate all proceeds provided by patrons during their visit to the ice maze to Children’s National Hospital. The maze will be open to visitors beginning on Dec. 10 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Dec. 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. It will be closed to the public from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day for repairs.

Among other festivities, local violinist Stephanie Mathias will be performing at CityCenterDC Plaza on Dec. 10-11 and Dec. 17-18.

CityCenterDC also will have outdoor dining chalets. The center will transform greenhouses filled with cherry blossoms into a winter dining experience. Participating restaurants — Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, and Fig & Olive — will have reservations available.
