Trump Supporter Charged With Attacking Man In DC Who Criticized His Hat

The man reportedly punched a man 20 times after he got into a heated political argument over Trump's policies in Dupont Circle.

WASHINGTON, DC — A supporter of President Trump from Florida who was wearing the iconic red "Make America Great Again" hat has been arrested after D.C. police say he attacked three people in Dupont Circle over the weekend following a heated argument about Trump.

Police say the 32-year-old man straddled one man and punched him 20 times with his fist and forearms, according to a Washington Post report. Two other people who intervened were also struck, the report adds.

Police arrested Louis Samuel Travieso on three counts of felony assault, and called the incident a "suspected hate crime," the Post reported. The charges were later reduced to misdemeanors.

The fight reportedly happened at around 6:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of New Hampshire Avenue. The fight started after one of the men made a remark about Travieso's hat, resulting in a "heated political argument."

The argument reportedly started inside a restaurant, and then continued when he went outside with his family to get into an Uber. Travieso got out of the Uber at a red light and went on the attack, police say. Bystanders say Travieso was the aggressor, the Post said.
