U.S. Park Police Officer Tries to Shoot Raccoon, Shoots His Own Foot Instead: Report

An officer was attacked by a raccoon in Rock Creek Park on Thursday, and it didn't end well for either party.

WASHINGTON, DC — A U.S. Park Police officer who was trying to defend himself against an aggressive raccoon in Rock Creek Park on Thursday managed to shoot himself in the foot instead, according to a report.

The Washington Post reported that at around 12 p.m. Nov. 3, an officer was attacked by a raccoon on Horse Stable Lane in Northwest, and ended up shooting himself. He was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The raccoon wasn't so lucky -- it was dispatched by another officer.

Animal control will remove the raccoon, the report states.
