Uber Driver Tries To Rape Passenger Near US Capitol: Report

A driver from Oxon Hill is wanted by police after they say he tried to sexually assault his fare Sunday.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Police are trying to track down an Uber driver from Oxon Hill who is accused of trying to sexually assault a female passenger near the U.S. Capitol.

WTOP reports that police have identified 32-year-old Selvin Chocooj as the suspect, and are asking for the public's help to find him. He faces a charge of assault with intent to commit first-degree sexual abuse.

The woman told police she was riding in his car at around 4 a.m. Sunday when he parked in the 400 block of East Capitol Street SE and tried to pull her pants down, according to the report.

The driver punched and strangled her when she began to yell, but she was able to escape. She was treated at a local hospital.

Chocooj is described as Hispanic, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, and 165 pounds with a medium build. His car is a dark-colored four-door sedan.
