Vandal Strikes Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument

A vandal scrawled bizarre messages about JFK and 9/11 with permanent marker on three D.C. monuments.

WASHINGTON, DC — Someone defaced three D.C. national monuments — the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and World War II Memorial — with permanent marker on Saturday, scrawling bizarre messages referencing the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.

U.S. Park Police spokeswoman Sgt. Anna Rose briefed reporters in front of the Lincoln Memorial Tuesday morning on the graffiti that was recently discovered by authorities. She said they believe it happened on Saturday and they were examining surveillance footage to find the person or persons responsible.

The vandal used a permanent marker to write strange messages including "Jackie shot JFK" and something about the 9/11 hijackers that flew a plane into the World Trade Center more than 15 years ago.
