Vehicle Of Interest Sought In Shooting Death Of 15-Month-Old Boy

WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are asking the public's help in locating a vehicle of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of 15-month-old Carmelo Duncan in Southeast, according to a police release.

Shortly after 9:35 p.m., on Dec. 2 officers from the Sixth District responded for the report of gunshots being fired in the area of the 5700 block of Southern Avenue, S.E.

The officers located a vehicle that had been shot at least 10 times. They learned that Duncan, who was a passenger in the vehicle, had been taken by D.C. Fire and EMS to a local hospital to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead.

On Wednesday, MPD released surveillance photos of the vehicle in connection with this case. The vehicle is described as a 2011 dark colored BMW X5 SUV. At the time of the incident, the BMW had a temporary tag of G51179 from the state of Virginia. Police do not know if the vehicle still has that tag on it.

MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any persons responsible for committing a homicide in the District. FBI and ATF are offering additional reward money in the case, bringing the total reward amount to $60,000.
