Washington DC Ranks Among Worst Cities For Drivers

WASHINGTON, DC — As anyone who has ever been stuck in a rush-hour like traffic jam on a clear Saturday afternoon on Interstate 395 probably has surmised, the nation's capital is not an easy place in which to drive. A new study by financial data website WalletHub has concluded the city is one of the nation’s worst for drivers.

DC was ranked as the 97th driver-friendly city among the nation’s hundred largest cities by WalletHub analysts who examined 25 key metrics, such as average gas prices, average annual hours of traffic delays, to auto repair shops per capita. Corpus Christi, Texas, ranked first, while San Francisco came in last.

The study concludes that DC drivers spend more time in congestion than any other city besides Los Angeles.

DC finished as high as 32nd in one metric, access to vehicles and maintenance. But the city’s overall ranking in the WalletHub study was dragged down by poor rankings in a number of other categories:

• Cost of ownership and maintenance rank: 73
• Traffic and infrastructure rank: 97
• Safety rank: 94
