Student Dies Weeks After Washington DC Classroom Beating: Police

At least two people beat the student's face and body at Ballou High School on Jan. 10. He died at a hospital on Monday.

WASHINGTON, DC — A student at Ballou High School in Washington, D.C. has died weeks after at least two people attacked him in a classroom. On Jan. 10, the student refused to allow two people to use his cellphone, so they beat him in the face and body, police said. The victim said one of the suspects also sprayed his body with "perfume."

The student died at a hospital Monday evening, police said. His name wasn't immediately released. The school is located in the residential Congress Heights neighborhood in southeast Washington, D.C.

Police told Patch the attack was categorized as a “simple assault” and they have not publicly identified any suspects. An investigation is ongoing and a medical examiner will determine how the student died.

The District of Columbia Public Schools referred questions to police and didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
