Watch Bored Pandas Celebrate Presidents Like You — Doing Nothing

Giant panda Bei Bei celebrated the Lunar New Year with snacks. How will he celebrate Presidents Day at the National Zoo? Watch live cam.

WASHINGTON, DC — Whether you call it Presidents Day or Washington's Birthday — the name the federal code uses to give its employees Monday, Feb. 19, a day off — the holiday is a bit mushy, some might even say boring. No huge parades mark the February births of two of the nation's greatest presidents — founding father George Washington and defender of the Union Abraham Lincoln — no big fireworks extravaganza honors the men.

Really: Have you ever really celebrated Presidents Day?

Some Americans may actually check out the price of mattresses and bedding on sale to "honor" our presidents. Those with kids off from school may have plenty to do just to keep the roof on the house.

And this year, rooting for Team USA athletes competing in the Olympics is an option — but the "sport" of curling can keep your attention for only so long. (Like 30 seconds?)

Luckily, while many banks, public schools, courts, the US Post Office, and the stock markets are closed on Monday, along with local, state and federal offices, the Smithsonian's National Zoo is open, which means you can spend a bit of time with the guilty pleasure of watching Bei Bei, America's Panda, doing about the same thing as you're doing this holiday weekend — pretty much nothing.

Bei Bei, along with Tian Tian and Mei Xiang, can be viewed on the zoo's Panda Cam between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern.

What exciting things will they do to mark Presidents Day? Not much. Most likely eat bamboo and roll in the grass. But check out the giant panda cam to see.
