Watergate Hotel Offers Stunning 2017 Inauguration Package

For a high price, you'll get to stay in one of the most infamous hotels in the world for the presidential inauguration this January.

WASHINGTON, DC — The Watergate is inviting you to "make history" at its hotel this January, albeit not in the way that President Richard Nixon did decades ago. The recently reopened and redesigned hotel at the Watergate complex, the site of the famous 1972 break-in, is offering a 2017 Presidential Inauguration package that includes a truly luxurious D.C. experience.

"Stay at the stunningly reimagined hotel and be a part of what promises to be yet another significant moment in the nation's history," the hotel said in a statement. "Secure a four-night stay and experience unapologetic luxury at our iconic hotel. From the alluring atmosphere of The Next Whisky Bar to indulgent pampering at Argentta Spa, overseeing the city from The Top of the Gate and more, there is no better way to experience this moment than at The Watergate Hotel."

The experience will cost you: rates start at $995, and you must book for a minimum of four nights. The rate is also pre-paid and non-refundable.

Inauguration Day is Friday, Jan. 20, 2017.

In 1972, burglars broke into the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee in the Watergate Hotel and Office Building, wiretapping phones and photographing documents. An investigation later determined that high-ranking officials in the Nixon Administration had order a break-in of the headquarters and then tried to cover up their connections. The Watergate scandal led to Nixon's resignation on Aug. 9, 1974, and the suffix "-gate" from the name "Watergate" has been used to describe almost every political scandal since.
